Tennis balls

Your partner throws two tennis balls back to back, from different angles, from three meters. One-handed catch: the ball is too small to trap against your body. It’s the best hands drill there is without a football.

Key points

  • Use only one hand: the one on the side where the ball is coming from.
  • Keep your eyes on the ball until it reaches your hand, not halfway there.
  • Twenty balls per hand; the thrower picks up the pace when it gets easy.

Common mistakes

  • Catching the ball against your body: the small ball is there precisely to prevent it.
  • Throwing too slowly, which eliminates the need for reaction time.
