Tennis balls, Wall

Tennis balls thrown against a wall two meters away and caught with one hand, alternating. The bounce is unpredictable and the ball is too small to trap against your body: it’s the best hand work available to a player alone, against a wall, with nobody else.

Key points

  • Use only one hand: the one on the side of the bounce.
  • Move closer to the wall as it gets easier: this reduces your reaction time.
  • Three sets of thirty, right hand, left hand, alternating.

Common mistakes

  • Stepping back to buy time: that’s exactly the opposite of the progression you’re after.
  • Always throwing at the same spot on the wall.
