Self-Toss Over-Shoulder

Throw the ball high and far in front of you, over your shoulder, then run underneath it and catch it on the run. This is the only over-the-shoulder catching drill you can practice on your own, and it’s done while running: catching a ball while standing still teaches you nothing about this move.
Key points
- The throw goes forward, not up: otherwise, you’ll be standing still instead of running.
- Turn your head alone; keep your shoulders aligned with the direction of travel.
- Four sets of eight, alternating shoulders.
Common mistakes
- Throwing too short and ending up standing still under the ball.
- Turning your whole chest, which breaks your run.
