Hand Shape
- Prescription
- 40 slow catchesabout 5 min
- Players
- Solo
- Equipment
- Football
Short, slow self-throws, maintaining proper hand form with each catch: thumbs together above the eyes, little fingers together below the chest. This is the only exercise in the program that focuses solely on form: no running, no pressure, and no timer. A beginner who masters this here won’t have to think about it elsewhere.
Key points
- The ball should touch the fingers, never the palms.
- The hand shape is set before the ball arrives, not on contact.
- Forty slow catches in five minutes, without focusing on speed.
Common mistakes
- Speeding up: at this stage, speed hides the fault instead of fixing it.
- Crossing your thumbs instead of touching them together, which closes the frame.
