Resisted Sprint
- Reference prescription
- Check the prescription in your workout.
- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Resistance band
Two 15-yard resistance runs using a resistance band, calibrated to reduce speed by approximately 10%. Then 4 to 6 minutes of recovery before the first maximal effort: this is the interval where the performance boost still outweighs the fatigue it has caused.
Key points
- Resistance should cost about 10% of your speed, no more: beyond that, your running mechanics change and you’re working on something else.
- Wait 4 to 6 minutes before the first maximal effort. Too early, only the fatigue is left; too late, the effect is gone.
- One potentiation option only, never two.
Common mistakes
- Using too much resistance and turning the run into a push.
- Going straight into the workout without waiting out the interval.
