Counter 1-2-3

- Cones (recommended)
Always use the same first step, but the counter move comes on the first, second, or third step, depending on when the defender reacts. In one out of every three repetitions, do not counter at all.
Key points
- The first step is identical in all four cases: that’s what makes it unreadable.
- Wait for their reaction before making a decision; don't decide before you start.
- Keep one rep with no counter, so the first step stays a real threat.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Always countering on the same step, which becomes predictable within two sets.
- Changing your first step depending on the planned counter, which gives everything away.
