- Cones (recommended)
A progression in three steps around a cone placed on your line (or any other marker: bottle, bag). One: you line up with your feet on either side of the cone, dip the shoulder on the cone side and your hand comes to touch it. Two: the same start, then you go deep, straight ahead, for ten yards. Three: the same start, then you run a route. Eight releases in all, alternating the shoulder that dips.
Key points
- The shoulder dips lower than the defender’s.
- Touching the cone forces you to really get low.
- After the release, you come back up straight toward the deep part of the field.
Common mistakes
- Touching the cone by bending the back instead of the legs.
- Drifting sideways after the release.
