Diamond Release
- Prescription
- 3 × 4 branches · 60 s restabout 8 min
- Players
- Solo
- Equipment
- Cones (recommended)
Four cones (or other markers: bottles, bags) arranged in a diamond shape around you, with one exit at each corner. This drill establishes the four release directions before requiring you to choose one under pressure. Complete two full laps, then one lap where the side is called out at the last moment.
Key points
- Each branch is worked at the same tempo as the others.
- Keep your upper body low and stable: only your legs change direction.
- The last round is on a late call, to get away from rote memory.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Polishing two branches and rushing the other two, which recreates a strong side.
- Chaining the branches without coming back to the center, and losing the common starting point.
