Screen Block
- Prescription

- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Cones
The screen block: The receiver moves toward the advancing defender and blocks him by gaining ground rather than waiting for him. Two cones mark the path to be opened. Timing is everything; arriving too early frees up the defender.
Key points
- You move forward to meet him, never back: a screen block that gives ground is a lost block.
- Arrive balanced, not at full speed: the defender is already moving, he’ll do the rest.
- Open up the outside lane; the ball carrier always follows the block.
- Eight repetitions; switch roles every two.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for the defender in place, which lets him choose his side.
- Starting too early and making contact before the ball carrier has the ball.
