Crack Block
- Prescription
- 6 × blocks / side · 45 s restabout 7 min
- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Blocking bag or shield
The inside block on a linebacker or safety running toward the ball. The partner holds a bag and moves laterally; the receiver starts from the outside and seals him at an angle. Always make contact above the waist.
Key points
- Aim for the target’s outside number, not its middle: that’s what seals it instead of smashing into it.
- Take a tight angle to get in front of him, never behind.
- Contact above the waist: below that is illegal and dangerous.
- Six repetitions per side.
Common mistakes
- Getting behind the target, which is both unnecessary and penalized.
- Dropping your head at the moment of contact.
