- Cones (recommended)
Three alignments, three answers, worked with a cone that stands in for the defender (or any other marker: bottle, bag). A partner calls the alignment at the last moment; alone, you move the cone just before you go. Defender outside (“outside leverage”): one violent step toward his outside, to pin him there. Defender inside (“inside leverage”): two quick steps that freeze him (“2 quick freeze”). Defender far off (“loose coverage”): you go straight, at full speed, and head for his nearest hip. Three releases of each. In the first video, the three commands are written on screen.
Key points
- One alignment, one answer: you don’t hesitate.
- Against the outside, the first step goes at him, not beside him.
- Against a defender who is far off, you go for his hip, you don’t go around him.
Common mistakes
- Doing the same release whatever the alignment.
- Hesitating after the call and losing the first beat.
