Quick Square Set

- Cones (recommended)
Put a cone (or any other marker: bottle, bag) at the break point, five yards out: the video is run with no marks on the ground and the angle drifts without anyone noticing. Five yards, then a sharp 90 degrees inside or outside. At this depth two steps are enough to slow you down: the first sinks your weight, the second plants and sends you out. Ten per direction.
Key points
- Drop your hips on the step before, not when you plant: a high chest at the break announces the route one step early.
- You break out at a sharp 90-degree angle, not 80: a shallow angle extends the ball’s flight and lets the defender get into the window.
- Two steps, not three: at five yards you don’t carry enough momentum to need one more.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Using the braking of a twelve-yard route and losing two steps for nothing.
- Gaining depth during the break instead of coming out flat.
