- Equipment
- Cones (recommended)
Set up a cone (or any other marker: bottle, bag) one yard in front of you. Attack his outside shoulder first, as if he were in an outside shade, then cut out to the side he leaves open. Six repetitions, alternating between cutting outside and cutting back inside.

Key points
- Play a head-up defender like an outside shade: that’s what finally forces him to pick a side.
- The first step should be short and under the body, never a stride.
- Don't decide which side to go to before you move: he's the one who should tell you.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Going straight at him: he has no decision to make, and he’s waiting for you.
- Choosing your side at the start, which turns a read into a gamble.
