Two minutes of continuous jogging back and forth over 20 yards. This single exercise is what raises muscle temperature toward 38.5 °C; the three that follow only vary the footwork on a body that is already warm.
Key points
- Conversational pace: You should be able to talk while running.
- Keep breathing through your nose. If you open your mouth, you’re going too fast.
- End of the phase: a light film of sweat, no more.
Common mistakes
- Starting too fast and reaching the mobility phase out of breath.
- Cutting it down to thirty seconds: your temperature doesn’t rise, and everything that follows assumes a warm muscle.
