Slow lateral movement using cross steps, covering 20 yards round trip. This already initiates the hip rotation that the mobility phase will then work on.
Key points
- The rotation comes from the hips; the shoulders remain stable.
- The knee goes in front, then behind: both movements count.
- Take it slow at first. Speed doesn’t make the exercise better: it makes it wrong.
Common mistakes
- Turning your shoulders with your hips: there’s no separation left, so there’s no exercise left.
- Speeding up until your knee no longer crosses behind.
