Straight-leg runs over 10 yards, there and back: the relaxed leg extends, then the foot paws the ground backward to come back under the hips.
Key points
- The leg is straight but not locked, and it’s the foot that paws backward.
- Contact is short: don’t set the foot down, scrape the ground.
- Keep your hips high and your torso straight.
Common mistakes
- Landing the foot in front of the hips, which brakes you on every step.
- Locking the knee: the load goes through the joint instead of the muscle.
