Thumbs Up Punch
- Prescription
- 3 × 8 strikes · 45 s restabout 5 min
- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Blocking bag or shield
Your partner holds a shield upright, not moving. Strike with both hands together, palms up and thumbs out, without pulling your hands back before you go. The shield should tilt up, not move back.
Key points
- Your hands go from where they are; they never reload: a reload is time given to the defender.
- Thumbs out and palms open; the contact surface is the heel of the hand.
- Three sets of eight strikes; the partner holds the position without assistance.
Common mistakes
- Pulling your hands back before striking, which gives everything away.
- Striking flat rather than from low to high: the shield moves back instead of tilting up.
