Approach & Break Down
- Prescription
- 3 × approaches / side · 90 s restabout 6 min

- Equipment
- Cones
Leave the line as if running a route, at full speed, and break down the cushion to a cone seven yards away. Two yards before it, gather yourself into balance over three steps and finish in the blocking stance. It’s the part everyone skips, and it’s the one that decides the block.
Key points
- The start must look exactly like a route start: a defender who guesses the run backs off.
- You brake over three steps, not one: a single step is a stop, not control.
- Arrive balanced, not stopped. Your body is still ready to move.
- Six repetitions, three on each side.
Common mistakes
- Slowing down right off the line, which announces the run before it starts.
- Arriving at full speed on the defender and missing him by a step.
