No run-up and no strike: set yourself directly in contact with your partner, in the exact end-of-block position, and hold. Wide base, hands inside, hips square. It’s the finish-line photo you learn here, before knowing how to get there.
Key points
- Starting from the final position allows you to get a feel for it without having to find it during the movement.
- The partner pushes in short, jerky bursts, first in one direction and then the other, without warning.
- Five sets of ten seconds each; switch roles each time.
Common mistakes
- Tensing up instead of staying in a crouched position: a stance with straight legs will give way at the first impact.
- Looking your partner in the eyes instead of at his hips.
