Slow drills with a partner, where you check only one thing: the elbows must never stray from the torso. As soon as an elbow moves away, start over. This is the detail that determines how much power you can generate, and nobody pays attention to it.
Key points
- Elbows against your ribs: with your arms spread, it’s your upper body carrying the load instead of your legs.
- The partner pushes gently and checks from the outside; he is not trying to win.
- Three sets of ten contacts; switch roles every set.
Common mistakes
- Spreading your elbows to cover more width, which gives the defender all the power.
- Going fast: at real speed you can’t see anything, and the drill stops working.
