- Equipment
- Cones (recommended)
The whole slant, from the line to the exit. Place a cone (or any other marker: bottle, bag) five yards in front of you. Three steps: the first two push vertically, shoulders low, and the third plants your outside foot at the cone and sends you back out at 45 degrees to the inside. You keep running five yards after the break, as if the ball were waiting for you there. Five reps per side.

Key points
- Five yards of stem before breaking: a slant that is too short hasn’t moved the defender.
- Three steps, the third one plants.
- The exit is run at 45 degrees to the inside, without slowing down, even with no ball.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Breaking before the five yards: the defender hasn’t been moved.
- Slowing down after the plant because there is no ball to wait for.
