Wide Step Re-Stack
- Prescription

- Cones (recommended)
A deliberately wide first step to widen the defender, then get straight back on your vertical line. It teaches you not to pay for the wide step: it opens a door, it must not cost you your line. Eight starts per side.
Key points
- The wide step is a single step: the second one already brings you back toward your line.
- Keep your shoulders facing upfield during the wide step.
- You get back on your line by accelerating, never by braking.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Chaining two wide steps and ending up on the sideline instead of heading for the goalposts.
- Getting back on your line along a rounded path, which lengthens your route without bothering anyone.
