Pole Extension Catch
- Prescription
- 2 × 10 catches / side · 30 s restabout 5 min
- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Football
You stand just behind a pole (a goalpost, a tree or a planted stake). Your partner throws to one side, then the other: the pole stops you from getting behind the ball, so you take it with arms extended, away from your body. Variation: back to the thrower, you turn around on the signal and take the ball at the last moment. Two sets of ten per side.
Key points
- Arms extend, your body stays behind the pole.
- The catch is made with the hands alone.
- Bring the ball into your body right after the catch.
Common mistakes
- Going around the pole to get in front of the ball.
- Extending the arms too early and stiffening the hands.
