Two players face each other five yards apart in a five-yard-wide lane. One takes the lead and changes direction whenever they want; the other copies them. Fifteen seconds, then switch roles. This is the only footwork drill in the catalog that isn’t pre-planned: you don’t know where you’re going.
Key points
- The leader really changes direction; he doesn’t just go back and forth at a steady rhythm.
- The person following should keep their eyes on the other person’s hips, not on their feet or shoulders: the hips don’t lie.
- Fifteen seconds maximum. Any longer than that, and it’s no longer agility: it’s cardio.
- Rest when it's the other person's turn: six sets each.
Common mistakes
- Anticipating instead of reacting, which empties the drill of its point.
- A leader who makes unrealistic fakes: the goal is to reproduce a real battle, not to trick.
