- Cones (recommended)
A cone (or any other marker: bottle, bag) set on your inside shoulder stands for a defender in inside shade. Take three steps to attack his inside hip, as if you were running a slant, then release hard to the outside on the fourth. Six starts, full recovery.

Key points
- Attack the inside first: that’s what forces him to chase you instead of letting him wait.
- The target is his inside shoulder, not the cone itself.
- The outside release gains ground upfield; it doesn’t drift toward the sideline.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Releasing outside right away: he had nothing to defend, so he just runs with you.
- Widening toward the sideline, which then plays like a second defender.
