Head-Up vs Hard Press
- Prescription
- 6 × starts / side · 30 s restabout 6 min
- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Blocking bag or shield
He’s right across from you and he strikes. Both sides are open, which is a trap: pick one half of the man and beat the jam on that side, rather than staying in the middle.
Key points
- Pick your half before contact, not during: in the middle, you take both hands.
- The jab is violent and wide; it moves his weight before his hands arrive.
- Finish by sliding your shoulder under his arm, not by spreading out.
Common mistakes
- Staying on his line, hoping to choose later.
- Backing up under the jam instead of attacking your half.
