Standing long jump, landing and holding the position for two seconds without moving your feet. This is the simplest measure of horizontal power (the one used at the start) and the easiest numerical benchmark to track on your own from week to week.
Key points
- Swing your arms back, then forward: they’re worth several tens of centimeters.
- You hold the landing. If you take a step to catch yourself, the rep doesn’t count.
- Mark your best jump on the ground and compare it from one session to the next.
- Ninety seconds between sets: that’s a maximum effort.
Common mistakes
- Jumping farther than you can land, which puts everything into your lower back.
- Chaining the five jumps without a pause: each jump starts from a standstill.
