Breakdown on Air
- Prescription
- 12 × stops · 30 s restabout 10 min
- Players
- 2 minimum
- Equipment
- Football, Cones (recommended)
Same stop as in the Breakdown Drill, but your partner throws the ball the moment you come to a stop. You catch the ball while stationary, facing him, exactly as you would on a hitch route. Twelve repetitions.
Key points
- The passer releases when your last step slaps down, not after: any later, you’re waiting and the drill no longer trains timing.
- Raise your hands once you’ve come to a stop, not while you’re braking.
- Same requirement as without the ball: no drifting after coming to a stop.
Common mistakes
- Looking for the ball during the deceleration, which lifts your chest.
- A passer who waits until you’re completely still, which removes the constraint.
