Breakdown Drill
- Prescription
- 3 × 8 stops · 45 s restabout 8 min
- Players
- Solo
- Equipment
- None
The stop worked for its own sake, with no route around it: you run, throttle your speed down in two steps, go again, and repeat. You count stops, not catches. Three sets of eight.
Key points
- Your hips drop before your foot touches the ground: it’s your pelvis that slows you down, not your heel. If you stop with your torso upright, you’ll plant one heel in front of you and end up leaning backward.
- Bend the knee on the last foot, keeping the shoulders in front of the hips.
- You stop where you planted, without the two drifting steps.
Common mistakes
- Stopping with your chest high, which puts your weight behind you and costs a step to go again.
- Getting higher and higher as the set goes on.
