- Cones (recommended)
The whole route, from the release to the break, as the video shows it. Two cones (or other markers: bottles, bags): a starting cone on your line and a break cone at twelve yards. At the starting cone you pick your release (a jab, a slide or a power start) and do it in full. You run up to the break cone, sink your hips and break at 45 degrees back toward the passer. Then you return to the starting cone and go again on the other side. Eight routes.

Key points
- You choose the release before you go, and you do it in full.
- You sink your hips before the break, then you push.
- The break comes back toward the passer, at 45 degrees.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Rushing the release because you are already thinking about the break.
- Coming back flat, parallel to the line.
