Lead With The Hip

Lead your partner by moving your hips, not your arms. As soon as an elbow moves away from your body, bring both hands back into position before continuing, without letting go. Bringing your hands back into position is part of the block; it does not interrupt it.
Key points
- The hip leads; the arms only hold what the legs have taken.
- An elbow coming out is the signal to reset: you don’t finish the drive in the wrong position.
- Six drills; the partner really puts up a fight starting with the second one.
Common mistakes
- Resetting only one hand, which turns your chest and opens the other side.
- Pulling with your arms when he resists, instead of bringing your hips back under.
