A start from the push-up position, arms straight. You have to rebuild your body angle from the ground, with no momentum and no prior step. It’s the most demanding start in the catalog, and the one that best exposes a lack of pushing strength.
Key points
- The first foot should land under the hips, not in front of them: if it lands in front, it slows you down.
- The upper body straightens as the stride lengthens, over six to eight steps.
- Five reps are enough; they’re costly.
- Ninety seconds of recovery, more if your start gets worse.
Common mistakes
- Getting up first and then going, which makes it two movements instead of one.
- Reaching for a big first step, which breaks the angle and stops the acceleration.
