Band Resisted Start

Players

Equipment
Resistance band

Band resistance over a ten-yard start, with the partner holding the anchor and keeping the tension constant. The resistance forces you to push back longer and stops you from standing up too early.

Key points

  • Keep your body at a 45-degree angle on the first three steps.
  • Full push: extend your leg all the way.
  • The last two reps are done without the band: it’s the contrast that does the work, not the resistance alone.
  • Ninety seconds between each start.

Common mistakes

  • Standing up from the second step.
  • Too much tension disrupts your running form: if your stride becomes labored, the resistance band is too tight.
