Distraction Drill
- Prescription
- 3 × 10 catches · 30 s restabout 4 min
- Players
- 3 minimum
- Equipment
- Football
A third player waves a hand in front of the receiver’s eyes, shouts, or waves an arm at the moment of the catch. The goal is to train the receiver not to take their eyes off the ball, which is the one thing a defender is really trying to achieve.
Key points
- Keep your eyes on the ball, never on the hand that’s in the way.
- The distraction changes with each repetition; otherwise, it becomes predictable.
- Three sets of ten.
Common mistakes
- Blinking or pulling your head back as the hand comes in.
- A distractor who touches the receiver: that’s no longer a distraction, it’s contact.
