- Cones
Six cones arranged in a zigzag pattern, spaced four to five yards apart, to be navigated with 45-degree cuts. This is the gateway to changing direction: the angle is wide, so it’s forgiving, and you can focus on your footwork rather than on just getting through it.
Key points
- Lower your hips before each cut, not during it.
- Push off with your outside foot: the one farthest from the new direction.
- Run tight around the cone: if you go one meter too far, the exercise won’t be effective anymore.
- One minute between runs.
Common mistakes
- Rounding the turns to go faster, which gives you a nice time and no work.
- Staying tall on your legs, so you have nothing to push off with.
