Sprint to Stop
- Prescription
- 5 × 15 yd · 120 s restabout 9 min
- Players
- Solo
- Equipment
- Cones
Sprint 15 yards, then come to a complete stop within a 3-yard area marked by two cones, and hold the position for two seconds. As this becomes easier, reduce the area and increase the sprint distance: the focus is on stopping distance, not speed.
Key points
- You brake over several short steps, not with a sudden lock-up.
- Your chest comes up and your hips sit back from the first braking step.
- Two minutes of full recovery: braking tired teaches nothing good, and that’s when you get hurt.
- Shrink the zone to two yards before lengthening the sprint.
Common mistakes
- Slowing down gradually before the zone, which removes all the work.
- Stopping on a single straight leg, the exact move that wrecks knees.
