You run up, sit in the gap, and show your hands. Against a zone defense, you stop and position yourself in the open space; against a man-to-man defense, you keep running. It’s the same run with two opposite outcomes, and that’s the choice we’re practicing here, calling out “zone” or “man” before you go. Ten repetitions, split evenly.

Key points
- Getting into position doesn't mean coming to a sudden stop: you slow down and make yourself available, facing the passer.
- Raise your hands the moment your feet stop moving forward, not after.
- Call the coverage before you go: without a call, you always pick the same ending.
- In a group, with a ball: your partner throws to you as you come out of the break. Same movement, plus the catch.
Common mistakes
- Sitting down every time, which makes the curl a predictable route.
- Settling with your back to the passer and having to turn around to find him.
