A 20-yard run-up to build speed, followed by a 20-yard timed run between two cones. We don’t measure acceleration; we measure top speed: this is the only drill in the catalog that does so.
Key points
- The run-in zone is for reaching speed, not for saving yourself: go for it.
- In the timed zone you don’t push anymore, you hold. Trying to accelerate costs you time.
- Three minutes between runs, no exceptions.
- Write down your best time. It’s one of the few benchmarks you can track on your own from week to week.
Common mistakes
- Tensing up in the timed zone, which shortens your stride.
- Doing four runs without recovering: the last two only measure fatigue.
