Sprint along a curved path marked by four or five cones, then come to a sudden stop within a three-yard zone. In a game, you almost never run in a straight line: braking while turning, with your body already leaning, is the real-life scenario and the most difficult one.
Key points
- Drop your hips hard to brake. That’s the point that decides everything: braking on straight legs stops nothing and loads the knee.
- The body is tilted toward the inside of the curve while running; it straightens up only when braking.
- The outside foot works harder than the other: alternate the direction of your turns to maintain your balance.
- Two minutes between runs: it’s braking from full speed.
Common mistakes
- Braking while staying tall on your legs, which lengthens the stopping distance and puts everything into the knee.
- Straightening your path before the stop zone, which turns the exercise back into a straight sprint.
